Dental Implant Recovery, What To Expect After Dental Implant Surgery
Dental Implant Recovery. What Can I Expect?
What is the best way to recover after dental implant surgery? What happens after a single or a full mouth dental implant surgery? How does your body react after the placement? What could happen during healing, and what is the aftercare?
The implant recovery process starts right after the surgery. But, if you follow the subsequent recommendations, you can heal successfully.
A dental implant is a titanium screw (or post) placed or inserted into your bone through minimal surgery. Right after the surgery is when the recovery process begins.
After the placement, you might start feeling some discomfort. It is normal, and we address pain with potent painkillers.

After all, we are invading or drilling the bone. The body has several self-defense mechanisms and will react differently from patient to patient. It depends on general health conditions such as age, bone size, previous diseases, etc.
After the All On Four surgery, you can expect some swelling and mild discomfort. You can maybe feel it for the next three days after the surgery. Placing a titanium screw is technically an invasive procedure for your body. Your body interacts with the inserted screw and will bond or fuse. It is the osseointegration process.
It takes four to six months for the body to integrate with the titanium screw. Once the implants fuse with the bone provides a strong foundation for a tooth's root. Later you can load those implants with a fixed hybrid bridge or with Snap-In Dentures. This is the way you rehabilitate full-mouth dental implants.
For the All-On-4, the dental implant recovery lapse is the same as a single-tooth implant. We must wait four to six months after the placement to load on top of any restoration type.
Will I feel pain during the dental implant recovery?
Right after the surgery, you will receive prescriptions such as anti-inflammatories and antibiotics. Taking your medications will avoid infections and control the pain.
If you need more potent painkillers such as Codeine, please be sure to bring those from home. In Mexico, there are restrictions on Codeine. We use strong painkillers such as Ketorolaco. Codeine is not able to be prescribed at the dentist in Mexico.
Dental implants problems during recovery
If you cannot use correctly hygiene, bacteria can form in the gum line and between the gums and the implants. The lack of hygiene could compromise the complete health of that particular area. It can include swelling and infection that can cause further problems in the future.
NOTE: Poor hygiene could seriously affect your dental implant recovery time lapse. Your habits must change; remember what brought you here in the first place. Maybe, the lack of hygiene was responsible for your decay. If you do not clean the implant area, you could lose those implants in the future.
After placing the dental implant into the bone, you must follow a strict oral hygiene ritual at least twice daily.
You will need to brush, use mouthwash, and water floss (such as a Waterpik) to remove food particles from the gums and between the bridge. If you do not follow the proper hygiene habits, you could develop an infection known as an abscess.
A sign to raise a red flag for dental implant problems could be huge pain, significant discomfort, and a reddish area around the implant. In some cases, you could develop an abscess. If that is your case, the implant will need removal. Statistics show that there is a 5% average rejection average after a dental implant recovery.
Dental implant problems can arise right after the surgery or years after the surgery. It depends directly on the hygiene habits you keep.
If placed correctly, dental implants in Mexico or anywhere in the world should last a lifetime inside your body. It depends a lot on your general health conditions and new hygiene habits how long those implants could last.
Dental Implant Healing Varies For Each Patient
After the surgical placement, the dental implant recovery takes its healing process. It will be ready to load after waiting four to six months for the osseointegration process.
We will wait for the bone to fuse with the titanium implant. After the osseointegration process, the body is ready to load it with a porcelain crown or a fixed hybrid bridge.
The osseointegration process could also vary in each patient. The causes could be genetics, bad habits such as smoking, lack of hygiene, etc.
